Long-term hypertension greatly increases the risk of a series of serious health problems, including coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral artery disease, vision impairment, chronic kidney disease, and dementia, among others. Statistics show that around 9.4 million people die each year globally from complications related to hypertension.
Lowering blood pressure is not easy. It requires long-term persistence and effort from the patients and their family members, and many struggle with the enduring challenge of chronic disease management. Inadequate treatment or a lapse in vigilance can easily lead to being misled and falling into the trap of rumors and unorthodox remedies. Concerningly, awareness and control of hypertension remain very limited among broad groups of people, and it is essential that we tirelessly work to raise public awareness and improve this situation.
